How a pilot call is designed to go
Illustrative example Dave and Harbour Plumbing aren't real. This is the wording planned for the pilot, and what you'd see on your phone.
- Assistant"Hi, you've reached Harbour Plumbing. I'm Dave's AI assistant. Dave's on a job, so I'm taking the details for him. I record calls so Dave gets the details right. Is that OK?"
- Caller"Yeah, that's fine. The kitchen sink's blocked and it won't drain."
- Assistant"No worries. What suburb are you in?"
- Caller"Dee Why."
- Assistant"Is water coming up anywhere it shouldn't, or is it just not draining?"
- Caller"Just not draining."
- Assistant"Dave has Tuesday at 2pm or Wednesday morning free. Would either of those suit?"
- Caller"Tuesday's good."
- Assistant"Thanks. I'll check with Dave and text you to confirm on this number."
- Text to DaveNew job: blocked kitchen sink, Dee Why. Not urgent. Tue 2pm? Reply Y, N or a time.
- Dave repliesY
- Text to callerDave from Harbour Plumbing has confirmed Tuesday at 2pm. Reply STOP to opt out.
What it's designed never to do
- Pretend to be you, or pretend to be a person. If someone asks, it says it's an AI.
- Record anyone who says no.
- Book a job, or confirm a time, before you've said yes.
- Quote prices. It only mentions a call-out fee if you've given it one.
- Give safety advice. If anyone's in danger, it tells them to ring 000.
- Send marketing. It only talks to people who called you, about their call.
A virtual receptionist for Sydney tradies, minus the call centre
A human virtual receptionist service puts your calls through to a person at a call centre. This is an AI receptionist for tradies instead: the plan is for it to pick up the calls you miss at any hour and take the same details every time, and you deal with one Sydney business for setup and changes. It won't use judgement like a person, so it's designed to check every booking with you and pass callers who want a person to you for a callback.
Joining the pilot
Register interest with the form below. When a spot opens, I ring you and go through it. Setup is the same as text-back: one call with me and one code for you to dial. On the call I take your trade, the suburbs you cover, your hours, the times you're usually free and the numbers that should never hear from it. Then we test it together before you pay anything.
Rather start simple? Missed-call text-back is A$149 a month. It's available today: callers get a text instead of a voice.
Where callers' details go
On the pilot, transcripts and job details are handled by the services that run it, some of them outside Australia. The privacy page lists them, what's kept and for how long.
