Who never gets a text
- Anyone on your skip list: family, mates, suppliers, the builder you work for. Add or remove them in the app.
- Anyone who replies that it's not about a job. They're added to the skip list automatically.
- Anyone who has replied STOP, ever.
- The same number, within two weeks of the last text.
- Private numbers and landlines, which can't get texts. You get a note that they called.
Is it legal?
It's built around the rules that cover business texts in Australia. Under the Spam Act 2003, a business text needs consent, has to say who it's from and needs a working way to opt out. Here's how each is handled:
- Only people who called you. It replies to someone who has just rung your business, about that call. No lists, no follow-up campaigns, no marketing.
- Says who it's from. Every text has your first name and business name.
- STOP works. Every text ends with "Reply STOP to opt out." A STOP reply works straight away and for good.
- No cold calls. It never makes calls, so the Do Not Call Register rules for telemarketing don't come into it.
This is how I've set it up, not legal advice. If you send your own marketing texts, that's separate and the same rules apply to you.
